Most skaters do not have a detailed plan...
do you know of a skater who does? Sure, ask
them and they'll claim they follow a daily
plan. Ask them to show it to you and that's
another story...
What type of racing do you like to watch in
any sport? The race where the top competitor
has lapped the field twice or the type of
race where the top 5 skaters are making
"dangerous" passes, "crazy" breakaways and
they all hawk at the line. Personally, I
enjoy watching an exciting race. I believe
if we share our knowledge athletes will take
advantage of that knowledge and some will
apply it to their own training regimen
ultimately creating a larger group of more
competitive skaters. Look at some of the
other foreign country's skaters... the U.S.
practically dominated this sport for a
number of years but collectively, our
country has not grown the program as quick
as other countries have. Sure, there are a
lot of dynamics that determine why a program
grows (and why it doesn't)... one of the
things very apparent in other countries is
their willingness to share information.
That's the approach I'm taking.
When it gets down to it, most top
athletes... not all, but most get to the top
based not on "secrets", genetics, "the best
coach", etc... they get there because they
are disciplined, they put forth 100% effort,
their training and nutritional programs are
their "Bible" and they have committed to
being the best they can be. They are
committed and they desire to be the best.
I could gather the best coaches, athletes,
sports therapists, personal trainers, etc
and have them provide you with everything
they know but when it gets down to applying
what you've learned, no one but you can do
that.
I share this training information because I
want to see you become better than you've
ever been. Maybe if we could create some
more excitement in this sport it would begin
to grow... who knows, it sure can't make it
any worse.
