I've done it myself... I had every intention
of beginning a training or nutritional
program and failed to follow through with
it. It starts off okay, then for some reason
it just fades away. There are plenty of
excuses as to why... no time, no money, too
tired... you name it. You want to know what
the "real" reason is though? It's simple...
a lack of commitment.
In the world of speed skating, your level of
commitment is one of the most important
components that define just how successful
you will become. In most cases, your success
will be commensurate with your level of
commitment... your effort is the fuel that
drives your success. In terms of commitment,
I'm going to make this short and sweet and
get directly to the point.
If you are serious about doing the very best
that you can, commit 100% to train as hard
as you can. I figure if you or your parents
are spending time and money for you to
participate in this sport, then train to be
the absolute best that you can be!
Stop what you are doing right now, look up,
clear your mind, take a deep breath and
count to five before you read the next
sentence...
Do I really possess the willpower,
discipline and fortitude to commit to a
training regimen that WILL allow me to get
in the best shape of my life? Only you can
answer that question.
Here is a plan right in front of your
face... it's being hand fed to you. Now it's
up to you to make a commitment. Will you
continue on the same path as you always have
looking for those "secrets" that will make
you an overnight skating sensation? Let me
share a secret with you... THERE IS NO
SECRET!
There are libraries full of books written by
the best athletes and coaches in the
world... you can read them over and over but
the information itself is worth absolutely
nothing if YOU don't apply it. You
can attend the best clinics anywhere but you
still have to apply what you've learned.
Here's my challenge... make a commitment
right now that you want to get in the best
shape of your life.
Follow the Encompass Training program. Do
not let others steer you away from it...
stick to the plan and you WILL GET RESULTS.
You'll come across obstacles... plow through
them. You'll be criticized by naysayers...
ignore them. You'll stumble... get back up.
You'll hurt... so what, suck it up. Picture
looking through a pipe... when I look
through it all I see is commitment at the
other end... nothing on the sides but a
black tunnel... no one can shake my
confidence that I have in myself for
completing this plan this year.
I will be in the best shape of my life by
the time Indoor and Outdoor Nationals comes
around because I have committed to this plan
(and I don't even plan to compete). How
about you? You are the only one that can
ensure your absolute success. No one else
can... not your coach, not your parents, not
anyone but you.
Make the commitment.
